Because there’s only so much a guidebook can tell you.

You can read every guidebook, watch every YouTube video (or Instagram reel) and spend hours researching your next mountain.

But wouldn’t it be wonderful to sit down with someone who’s actually been there and ask them everything you want to know?

What was harder than they expected? What would they pack differently? Did their training actually prepare them for the mountain? How did they cope when things didn’t go to plan?

And, most importantly, what do they know now that they wish they’d known before they left?

A little more about what we’re doing here...

That’s exactly what The Vertical Performance Podcast is about.

Every second Tuesday, I sit down with an everyday mountaineer or trekker to talk about the experiences, decisions and lessons behind their adventures.

We get into the physical preparation, the psychological challenges, the unexpected moments and all those wonderfully practical details that rarely make it into the polished summit stories.
Because sometimes, the most useful advice doesn’t come from an expert telling you what to do.

It comes from someone who’s been exactly where you’re hoping to go.
And if their experience helps you prepare a little better, make a smarter decision or feel a little more confident about your own adventure, then our goal for this podcast has been well and truly achieved.

Hi, I’m Kate!

I’m a mountaineer, sport scientist, performance psychology specialist and the Head Coach of Vertical Performance.

For over a decade, I've helped people prepare for everything from their first high-altitude trek to some of the world's biggest mountains.

And one of the things I love most about my job is hearing all about their adventures afterwards.

The stories. The unexpected challenges. The moments that had them questioning their life choices. And those little details that might seem insignificant at the time but turn out to make an enormous difference.

Because no matter how experienced we are, there's always something we can learn from someone else's time in the mountains. And that's really why we decided to started the Vertical Performance Podcast.

To go beyond what happened on a trek or expedition and explore why. What helped, what challenged them, what they'd do differently, and what the rest of us can learn from their experiences.

So whether you're listening during a long hike, your next training session, or whenever you need a little mountain inspiration, I'm very glad you're here.
